Real Estate Terms Wheel

Spin the jargon into plain English

By Mark Hasfurter — Remodeling since 1988 · Broker since 2000 · General Contractor

Real estate has a habit of hiding important ideas behind formal language. Pick a category and spin the wheel to learn one useful term at a time — what it means, why it matters, and where the fine print usually lives.

Pick a topic and spin

The wheel chooses a practical real estate term and translates it without the industry fog.

Watch for: The small detail that can change your price, timeline, or leverage.

Use the words before they use you

You do not need to memorize a dictionary before a transaction. You do need to stop the conversation whenever a term affects your money or obligations. Ask the lender, builder, agent, title company, or attorney to explain it in a complete sentence and show you where it appears in writing.

Mark's rule: If a professional cannot explain a term plainly, do not sign the page that contains it.
